FAA Test = Smoked

17 December, 2007 (15:00) | Aviation

So I officially passed my Private Pilot written exam today.  It was really pretty easy after much studying this weekend.  I met with Will this morning to get my log book endorsed.  After that I drove up to Jane Field to take my exam.  The folks at Cirrus were quite helpful, though I had to wait for some guys who came off a jet to figure out who was going to drive the rental car.  Got up to the testing room where there was a girl doing some sort of medical test by  the looks of the questions she was answering.  Once I sat down to the test all of the quesitons I had seen before from the software I have been using to study.   I breezed through the test in probably half an hour, I did not really check but it was fast.  I ended up scoring 57/60 or 95% which really amazed me because there were a ton of weather questions that  I had been getting wrong in my practice tests.   I either guessed right or studied the right quesitons.  All that I have left now is 3 or so hours of check ride prep and my check ride.  We will see if I can get it done before the end of the year.  Lets hope the weather stays decent and I can get this done before I have to go back to work.

57/60 is outstanding as far as I’m concerned. Jeez. You studied too much.

I know, I wish I had spent that time studying for my checkride. I didnt know what to expect and I did not want to wait 30 days

Congrats.

What test prep software did you use?

I used the software from faatest.com the only bad thing is they only code for Windows so I had to resurrect my old wintel laptop to study. I think the test question bank was well over 700 questions.

Well that obviously worked for you! Nice job.

I’m using the ASA Prepware along with their Virtual Test Prep kit for my “ground school” stuff (those two things only set me back $148, which is soooo much cheaper than the King School and other stuff I’ve seen for several hundred dollars). I’m also reading the companion book by Bob Gardner.

Hopefully it’ll all be enough to help me at least get an 80, though I wouldn’t mind scoring a 95 either! Does anyone ever ace the thing?

I went with the Rod Machado’s book for my ground school along with all of the FAA stuff. It was great for ground school but the faa test question bank was superb. For your written I would just study from the FAA question bank as long as the test study kits you use are using actual FAA questions you will have no problem. Unfortunatly, you will still need to use the Haynes manual for oral prep to study for the oral. It is all the same concepts so it is not much more of a reach. I am sure there are people that ace the bugger, I took too much time and studied too much for my written, I wish I had put that time into preparing for my check ride instead.
